AuditFile for Claude
Work on your engagements from Claude. The AuditFile connector gives Claude access to the engagements, trial balances, findings, review notes, workpaper metadata and saved reports you can already see in AuditFile, with your own sign-in and permissions. Read only is preselected when you connect; you can choose read and write or full access instead to let Claude add and update audit work, roll engagements forward, or sign work off, unless your firm administrator has limited the available levels.
Connect in Claude
- In Claude, open Customize → Connectors and choose AuditFile from the directory. If your organization adds connectors centrally, an owner adds it under Organization settings → Connectors.
- Choose Connect and sign in with your normal AuditFile account. MFA, single sign-on and firm IP rules apply as usual.
- Choose the access level and approve it on the AuditFile consent screen. Read only is preselected; read and write and full access are offered unless your firm administrator has limited them. Claude then lists the tools for that level and asks before using any tool that changes records.
Your account's exact server address is shown in AuditFile under
Developer Settings
as the Hosted MCP URL, for example
https://auditfile.com/mcp
. Use it when adding the connector manually.
Connect in Claude Code
Run once, then use /mcp to sign in:
claude mcp add --transport http auditfile https://auditfile.com/mcp
Claude Code signs in with the same AuditFile consent screen and keeps a short-lived token for the access level you chose on your machine.
What Claude can read
- Identity and discovery: who you are connected as, your clients, engagements, firm staff and licensed audit programs.
- Engagements: engagement details, materiality and progress, the full section and procedure tree, and procedure sign-off state.
- Accounting: trial balance summaries, accounts and balances, adjustments, analytical reviews and findings.
- Evidence and comments: workpaper metadata and download links for supported file types, and procedure notes with their review threads.
- Saved reports: Report Studio reports and their data, for firm administrators.
With read-only access, every tool is read-only and audit work stays in AuditFile.
What Claude can do with more access
Every level is available to every firm; a firm administrator can limit the levels members may grant under Firm Settings. Each member picks their own level when connecting. Everything runs as you, within your engagement permissions, and is recorded in AuditFile as your work.
- Read and write: add and reply to procedure notes and review comments, create and update findings, adjustments, trial balance accounts and analytical review narratives, create clients and engagements, roll an engagement forward into the next period, log time and set workpaper status.
- Full access: everything above, plus sign procedures off as prepared or reviewed, mark procedures N/A, resolve review comments, conclude findings, lock or unlock engagements, issue financial statements and delete records.
Try asking Claude
- “Which AuditFile engagements are assigned to me, and which ones are due this month?”
- “Summarize the trial balance for engagement 123 and list accounts with large year-over-year changes.”
- “List the unresolved review comments on procedure 456 and draft replies for me to review.”
- “Which findings on engagement 123 are material weaknesses, and what did we report last year?”
- “Roll engagement 123 forward to the 2026 year end, then tell me when it has finished building.”
- “Work through every unprepared procedure in the Cash section: document what you did as a note on each one and sign it off as prepared.”
Security and permissions
- Sign-in uses OAuth 2.1 with PKCE and a consent screen that names the app asking for access.
- The connection holds only the access level you chose, never more than your firm allows, and acts as you, within your engagement permissions and the engagement lock.
- Access tokens expire after two hours and are renewed automatically while you keep using Claude.
- Disconnect from Claude at any time, or revoke the connection in AuditFile under Connected applications .
- Firm controls apply: API access can be switched off per firm, and firm IP allowlists are enforced. Claude connects from Anthropic's published network range, 160.79.104.0/21.
Data handling
- Tool results are returned to Claude under your Claude plan's data terms; AuditFile stores no conversation content.
- Each request is logged with a request ID, the same as any AuditFile API call, and every change is attributed to you in AuditFile's audit trail.
- Workpaper tools return metadata and short-lived download links, not file contents.
- The connector uses AuditFile's standard API. See the privacy policy and terms of service .
